Day Trip to Chong Kneas Floating Village
Welcome to Cambodia! Floating houses have a long and complicated history in Southeast Asia, so today we’ll head out to visit Chong Kneas Village on the Tonle Sap, and meet with a family to learn their story.
Grab your daybag and hop onto our tuktuk!
Sarak will pick you up from your hotel and we’ll begin our 50 minute ride outside of the city to Phnom Krom. We’ll hop on a boat from the dock and visit the village for about 1.5 hours.
We’ll learn a bit about how the houses are constructed, and visit the crocodiles the families raise. Life on the water is challeging, and raising crocodiles helps families earn the small income they need to support their families. Sometimes a few friendly monkeys stay out here, so take some cool photos but don’t let them get your camera!
We’ll say our goodbyes in the village and head back to land for our local lunch, which we’ll eat in the shade of a palm tree overlooking rice paddies. Don’t worry— we can accommodate any type of allergy or dietary preference, so make sure to let us know beforehand!
After lunch we’ll explore the rice fields a bit and then hop in the tuktuk to head back to the city, arriving around 3:30.
Or kun, thanks for a great day!
